Author’s Notes
I enjoyed at last uncovering the story that my in-laws’ house gave birth to. It was very enjoyable to invent a past history for the house given the wonderful historic area in which it is set.
I had the most fun meeting for the first time the character who would become pivotal in this series, Merline Madagascar. Her name actually came to me in a dream! When I finally sat down to create her, her family history unfolded itself slowly, in layers. She is at times a very complex character.
The character of Caroline is that of a very independent woman. You’ll find that she is just the first of a long line of strong, independent women that will be populating this series.
I hope that you’ll enjoy experiencing this glimpse of history as much as I enjoyed writing it.
